General Massage Therapy Questions

  • Your first visit begins with a brief consultation to discuss your health history, any areas of concern, and your goals for the session. This ensures the treatment is tailored to your needs. Open communication is encouraged throughout to ensure your comfort.  During your first massage session, you can expect a comprehensive experience designed to cater to your specific needs and ensure your comfort and relaxation. Here's a breakdown of what typically happens:

    1. Consultation: Your session will begin with a brief consultation where you discuss your health history, any areas of concern, and your goals for the massage. This helps the therapist tailor the treatment to your needs.

    2. Setting the Environment: The massage room will be a calming space, often dimly lit with soft music to help you relax. You may also notice the soothing scent of essential oils or aromatherapy.

    3. Undressing: You will be asked to undress to your level of comfort, usually down to your underwear. You will lie on a comfortable massage table and be properly draped with a sheet or towel, ensuring only the area being worked on is exposed.

    4. Massage Techniques: The therapist will use a variety of techniques, such as kneading, rubbing, and applying pressure to different parts of your body. You should feel free to communicate if the pressure is too strong or too light.

    5. Relaxation and Communication: Open communication is encouraged throughout the session. If you have any discomfort or would like the therapist to focus on a specific area, let them know. Some people prefer to chat, while others enjoy silence - either is fine.

    6. Post-Massage Guidance: After the massage, the therapist may offer advice on post-session care, such as drinking plenty of water to help flush out toxins released during the massage.

    7. Feedback: Once the session is over, providing feedback on your experience can be beneficial for future sessions and help the therapist make any necessary adjustments.

Overall, your first massage should be a relaxing and rejuvenating experience, helping to relieve tension and promote overall well-being. Remember, the key is to communicate openly with your therapist to ensure the best experience possible.

  • Your comfort is paramount. You will be asked to undress to your level of comfort, typically down to your underwear. You will be properly draped with a sheet or towel at all times, with only the area being worked on exposed.

  • Massage therapy offers numerous benefits, including:

    • Reducing muscle tension and pain

    • Improving circulation

    • Enhancing flexibility and range of motion

    • Promoting relaxation and reducing stress

    • Supporting mental health by alleviating symptoms of anxiety and depression

  • Your comfort is our priority. Please communicate any preferences or areas you’d like to avoid before the session, and your therapist will adjust the treatment accordingly.

  • The frequency of massage sessions depends on individual needs and goals. For general wellness and stress management, a session every 3-5 weeks is beneficial. For specific issues like chronic pain or injury recovery, more frequent sessions may be recommended.

  • Yes, massage therapy has been shown to reduce symptoms of anxiety and depression by lowering cortisol levels and increasing serotonin and dopamine. The calming effect of massage promotes a sense of well-being and emotional balance.

  • Some clients may experience mild soreness after a massage, especially if it’s their first session or if deep tissue techniques were used. This is a normal response as your body adjusts and should subside within a day or two. Staying hydrated and gentle stretching can help alleviate soreness.

  • Post-massage care includes:

    • Drinking plenty of water to aid in flushing out toxins

    • Resting to allow your body to integrate the benefits of the massage

    • Avoiding strenuous activities immediately after the session

These steps help maximise the therapeutic effects of the massage.

  • Currently, our massage services are not covered by health insurance. However, starting from August 2025, we anticipate this will change as we are in the process of obtaining access to health insurance rebate numbers. Keep an eye on our updates for more information.

  • Absolutely! Many clients find the experience so relaxing that they drift off. This response signifies that your body not only feels safe and cared for but is also entering a deep state of relaxation, which is beneficial for healing and stress relief.

  • Yes, regular massage therapy can enhance immune function by increasing the activity of the body's natural killer cells, which are crucial in defending the body against viruses and other pathogens. This claim is supported by evidence-based research showing that massage can positively influence the immune system by not only increasing the activity of natural killer cells but also by reducing cortisol, a stress hormone that can suppress immune function. Studies have demonstrated that individuals who receive regular massages tend to have a lower incidence of stress-related illnesses, suggesting a link between massage therapy and a more robust immune system. For instance, a study published in the "Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine" highlighted that individuals experienced an increase in lymphocytes, which are white blood cells that play a large role in defending the body from disease, after receiving a massage. Therefore, incorporating regular massages can be a beneficial complement to maintaining a healthy immune system.

However, please note that for clients under the age of 18, it is required by regulation that a parent or guardian is present in the massage room during the session. This presence ensures the comfort and safety of the minor client and allows for open communication between the therapist, the guardian, and the client. By being present, the parent or guardian can also provide reassurance and support, enhancing the overall experience for younger clients.

  • Yes, prenatal massage is tailored to support the health and comfort of expectant mothers. It’s important to inform your therapist about your pregnancy so appropriate techniques can be used.

Please note that at this time, our pregnancy massage service is not available, but it will be offered soon.

It is recommended to receive a prenatal massage only after the first trimester to ensure the safety and well-being of both mother and baby.

  • During your initial consultation, we’ll discuss your health history, concerns, and goals to recommend the most suitable massage therapy for your needs.
